Onsite Sanitation Improvements - World Bank Review and Comments
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) is implementing an Output-Based Aid (OBA) project titled “Sri Lanka – Increasing household Access to Domestic Sanitation in Greater Colombo Project”. The objective of the Project is to improve sanitation services to low-income households in Greater Colombo by increasing the number of sewerage house connections to existing and new sewerage networks and improving on-site sanitation services at household level.

The Badovita Housing schemes are located in the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council area. This project area comes under the Ratmalana Divisional Secretariat and Katukurunduwatta GN Division. There are 5 housing schemes include to the project, named accordingly asStage 1 to Stage 5. These housing schemes are located approximately 3km away from Galle Road. Nearly 1400 families currently reside in the Badovita area and population is around 7000.
Diyawarapura DEWATS - World Bank Review and Comments
The Diyawarapura fisheries housing scheme is situated near the 5th km post along the new Galle road in the Moratuwa divisional secretary area of the southern part of the Colombo city. It is about 50m away from the main road. This is a low income housing settlement provided for fisheries families by the Ministry of fisheries. There are for flats and each flat consist of 16 housing units. The total of 64 housing units are occupying by approximately 300 people. This is located 150m away from the sea in a low lying flat surface area with a high water table of approximately 1 meter.

Direct connections are organized under two categories, distinguishing “direct connection full cost build out (1a1)” from “direct connection within the premises (1a2)”. This sub project is organized under two categories, distinguishing “Connections to Conventional sewer extensions (1b)” from “Connections to simplified sewer extensions (1c1)”. Extensions with conventional sewer technology and connections for households located more than 20m from the main sewerage network are comes under “1b” and Extensions with simplified sewer (Shallow sewer) and connections for households located more than 20m from the main sewerage network comes under “1c1”.

The Lunawa Samudra Shakthi housing scheme is situated 150m from the 20 km post along the Puranappu Raja Mawatha in the Moratuwa Divisional Secretary area of the Southern part of the Colombo city. It is about 20m away from center of the road. This is a low income housing settlement and which is managed under the Condominium Authority. There are 20 flats and each flat consist of 8 housing units. The total of 160 housing units are occupied by approximately 800 people. is the units are located 60m away from the sea in a low lying flat area with a high water table of approximately 1 meter.
